Tracy Smith finishes MS leadership course

Tracy Smith of Renasant Bank was one of 49 state residents who graduated from the 2007 Class of Leadership Mississippi, the nation's second oldest leadership program. A graduation ceremony was held on December 14, 2007 at the Jackson Marriott.

Leadership Mississippi's purpose is to identify and work with Mississippi leaders in strengthening our state by focusing on government and public affairs, economic development, environmental resources, health and education and quality of life. By focusing on these five areas, Leadership Mississippi empowers participants with information to make a strong impact in our state.

Sessions were held across the state in Jackson, Tunica, Biloxi, Greenville and Meridian.

Leadership Mississippi has graduated 30 classes since 1973 and more than 900 graduates are located across the state and nation.

The Leadership Mississippi program is endowed through a generous contribution by the late J.C. and Annie Redd. The program is conducted through the M.B. Swayze Educational Foundation, and created in 1978 by the Mississippi Economic Council.

Certification

Randall Burkhardt of Starward Vacations recently earned the Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) designation from The Travel Institute.

The Certified Travel Counselor designation is conferred by The Travel Institute upon travel professionals who complete an advanced certification program, demonstrate extensive industry knowledge and experience, and exemplify the highest standards of professionalism.

Woods promoted

Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) has promoted Jay Woods, a native of Olive Branch, to deputy executive director in charge of content.

Woods is responsible for leading and managing MPB's Content Operations Division, which includes all of MPB's television, radio, and new media content.

Woods joined MPB is 2003 as a contracts and grants administrator. In 2004, he assumed the position of director of human resources and contracts where he developed and implemented a number of policies that have improved the agency's overall effectiveness. He also provided assistance in obtaining and overseeing several large grants that have allowed MPB to accomplish its digital conversion.

Woods received a bachelor of arts degree and juris doctor degree from the University of Mississippi.

MPB includes an eight-station public television and radio network and the Radio Reading Service. Mississippi Public Broadcasting serves all 82 counties in Mississippi.
