Healthy Kids Day fun for all participants

The Olive Branch Family YMCA held their annual Healthy Kids day event on Saturday April 12th. Lots of fun was had by all who attended. There was something for kids all ages 1 - 100. The day started with a 5K race with 40 people participating and was started by Mayor Sam Rikard as he read a document that proclaimed April 12, 2008 as official Healthy Kids Day in Olive Branch.. The 1 mile family walk/run had 50 families participate. The winners in each category were as follows: Overall - Bert Hull 19:30, Men - Bert Hull - 19:30, Women - Gisele Goldstein

In the parking lot the following organizations shared some great info with families:

The Red Cross Safety house, the police and fire department provided a close look at their vehicles and weapons and K-9 dogs that are used for their job. Outside also were the Martin Family Petting Zoo and Save One Pet who were ready for families to adopt and take home animals that needed a home.

The health fair area inside was full of great information from Dr. Greg Evans, Dr. Brian Henry, Guard a Kid, Mitch Wright plumbing, heating and air, Olive Garden. The Baxter Clinic also did blood pressure checks. The health fair was rounded off by the YMCA Nutrition Corner, Subway giving away apples and Chick Fil A providing healthy chicken sandwiches to eat at the event. There was an unbelievable amount of talent shared at the event from local groups. The DeSoto Family Theater troop taught the children the High School Musical dance, Center Hill HS Dance Team showed us all why they have won so many awards, Ronald McDonald and Tex Austin wowed the crowds with their magic tricks. Also, Inis Acla Irish Dance Team impressed the crowd with their dancing skills. There were also opportunities for those who attended to watch demos of Martial Arts, Mui Thai boxing and Yoga. This is an annual event and we look forward next year to continuing to help families "Put Play in their Day."
